Are southern men different then northern men, if so how?

I met a man who is younger then I am. Normally I would not even consider dating a man younger then me but it feels different with him. He is southern and I grew up in the south but now live in the north. We have alot in common but I am very weary and untrusting because of past relationships. He keeps telling me that he is different from other guys. He even has asked me to be in an exclusive relationship. I am really attracted to him on so many levels and he says he feels the same. I do not know if my reservations about him are a result of him or my past experiences in relationships. Any advice would be helpful thanks
