Is Quake 4 a Good Game?

I loved Quake 3 Arena growing up and my buddy sorta left me obligated to get him something as a gift cause he has something for me. He likes Halo and Dead space and it reminded me of that just looking at the case. I've played Quake Wars and that was a piece of ****. Is quake 4 much better?
